What this is
marola ranks every beach nearby by whether it's good to swim right now, and tells you the best hour tomorrow. It pulls live sea, wind, wave and water-quality conditions, checks them against a jellyfish/whale heuristic, and turns the result into one score per beach per hour — computed once, cached, no tracking, no account.
How the score works
Each beach gets a number from the same five bands shown on the map legend: ≥70 good, 40–69 fair, 1–39 poor, 0 unfit, or no data when a source didn't answer. The score folds together sea state, wind, waves, tide, and water quality; an LLM writes a short plain-language summary of the conditions, and a second LLM pass checks that summary against the numbers before it's shown.
Where the data comes from
Beach locations and shapes come from OpenStreetMap. Sea and weather conditions come from Open-Meteo. Both are free, public sources — marola adds no private or paid data feed by default.
Privacy
The map runs with no cookies and no tracking. The "near me" sort uses your location only inside your own browser — it is never sent anywhere. The board itself is computed once on a schedule and served as static data; visiting the page doesn't trigger a live lookup on your behalf.
